Used with both injured and otherwise healthy athletes, developing sports-specific balance--which helps the athlete to know what each joint is doing (i.e., joint kinesthesia and proprioception)--is essential in helping improve performance and decrease injury/re-injury rates.
Though necessary to move efficiently during daily activities, balance is an often-overlooked ability. Balance is an intricate combination of muscle, nerve, and vestibular (inner ear) function. Following sports injury or surgery, at least one of these systems is commonly deficient. The balance training program designed will be specific to the athlete's goals and sport requirements.
